In the summer, Hitty Rose loves to swim. She often goes over to Grandma's farm and swims in the creek. The creek is pretty deep in the center, but Hitty Rose has known how to swim since she was two years old. Her favorite summer activity is to meet the cousins at Grandma's and spend the afternoon plundering along the creek hunting frogs and trying to weave baskets out of the cattails. When it gets too hot, everyone races back to the big rope Grandpa has tied into a tall tree, and, one by one, they swing out over the water. That sure cools you off in a hurry!

Mom always insists she wear sunscreen, and a big hat when she is messing around on the creekbank. Sometimes Hitty Rose forgets her hat, and has to borrow Grandma's old gardening hat. It's a bit out of shape, but it keeps the sun off her face.

Her towel is usually wadded up, damp and sandy, on the shore. But sometimes the girls all wear them tied around their waists, just so they don't forget to take them home.

At home, Hitty Rose has a swimming pool Dad installed a few years ago. That's always fun too, but she still thinks the creek is the most fun!
