Hitty's Pillow and Pillowcase
Hitty Perseverance shows off the new pillow and pillowcase.
For this project you will need:
Pillow: 2 pieces pillow fabric--2 1/2" x 3"
Case: 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" main piece fabric
5 1/2" x 2" top trim piece fabric
Sewing thread to match top trim fabric
6" lace
Stuffing for pillow
Hemostat (for turning)
Basic sewing notions
Cut out all pieces
Pin pillow front sides together.
Make two small dots *about* 1/2" apart. This is your turning hole.
Sew all the way around (leaving open
between dots). Trim off corners as shown, and turn right side out.
Softly stuff pillow, and sew
opening shut. Set aside.
Fold your top trim piece in half wrong
sides together, and press.
Sandwich the main piece, lace, and
top trim, lining up at the top. Pin!
Make sure the open edge of the pressed top trim is on top.
Sew across.
Press the lace up or press the
lace down--either way works fine. Mine is pressed up.
It's a matter of preference.
Trim off the extra edges of lace.
Line up side seams, pin at the
join. Sew ONLY down the side seam.
Next, center the side seam to the
back, and sew across bottom seam.
Turn right side out, and press.
Insert pillow and--done!
Please note: I used white thread so
you would be able to see where I was sewing.
I suggest you use a thread that matches the top trim fabric so it
doesn't show!
