Buffy-Inspired Quilt Series
Battlestar Galactica Quilts
A few years ago I began watching 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' on television. This has remained my favorite show of all time. So much so, that I recently began a series of quilts inspired by the BtVS characters.
#1 Picket Fences
This quilt is titled: "Never much cared for picket fences, anyway. Bloody dangerous." from Episode 136: First Date, in Season Seven. The dialogue is spoken by Spike, a vampire who, at this point, has a soul.
The pickets are made of red and black scrappy fabrics, with a yellow background. A border of gray tombstones (in honor of undead Spike) surrounds the pickets. There may be four hearts, one in each corner appliqued in place, to be decided after the quilting is done. It will be machine quilted by my favorite quilt shop, Phoenix Fabrics.
The rows alternate starting with a red or black color. The yellow background
represents the sunshine that Spike will never see. (Unless, on Angel, he becomes
human this season. Our fingers are crossed. But not in the shape of a cross,
since that would hurt Spike the vampire.)
#2 Checkered Past
This Quilt is titled: A Clan Tartan of Badness from Episode 123: Lessons,
in Season Seven. The dialogue is spoken by Principal Wood: "The school
board recommended that I spend a little time reading your record. It's quite
a page-turner, kind of a checkered past ..." and Buffy: "More like
a plaid, kind of a clan tartan of badness, really."
The rows are a brick pattern, upright and then across. This is a raggy quilt, done in bright homespun fabrics.
#3 Kitty Fantastico
Kitty Fantastico
Kitty Fantastico was the kitten who lived with Willow and Tara.
There is a reference in season 7 to crossbows and 'what happened to Kitty Fantastico",
hence the arrows around the quilt.
